According to Edochie, a true traditional ruler must be a “core traditionalist,” chosen by the deity of the land rather than by political processes. He emphasized that the selection should follow ancestral customs, where the chosen leader takes an oath before the deity to uphold truth, unity, and peace, and to reject all forms of evil.
“A traditional ruler must be selected by the deity of the land,” Edochie wrote. “Then he will swear before the deity to uphold truth, unity and peace, and shun evil. Any day he goes against the oath, the deity will strike him down. With that, he will never support evil, and he’ll fight evil with all his might.”
The actor expressed deep concern over what he described as the erosion of traditional values among the Igbo people, attributing the rise in societal ills, including crime, to the abandonment of cultural practices in favor of Western ideologies.
“We have now embraced too many of the white man’s ways and destroyed our society with it. That’s why there’s so much crime in our communities today. It’s time to retrace our steps and bring back our glory,” he stated.
Edochie called on Ndi Igbo to return to their roots and reaffirm the spiritual and cultural principles that once guided their communities, insisting that traditional leadership selected through sacred processes fosters accountability and moral integrity.
The actor’s remarks have sparked debate online, with some hailing his stance on cultural preservation, while others questioned the practicality of reverting to ancestral methods in contemporary society.
