The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Adamawa/Taraba Area Command has intercepted goods worth N71.7 million in an anti-smuggling operation between August and September. The Command’s Area Comptroller, Mr. Garba Bashir, disclosed the seizure during a press briefing in Yola, highlighting the command’s efforts to curb smuggling activities in the region.
Among the seized items are 1,115 jerry cans of 25 liters each and 26 drums of 220 liters, amounting to a total of 33,595 liters of petrol. The fuel was reportedly en route to be smuggled into the Republic of Cameroon. Additional confiscated goods include three vehicles used by the smugglers, 200 bags of foreign flour (each weighing 50kg), 57 bags of foreign parboiled rice (50kg each), and 10 bales of second-hand clothing.
“It is worthy to note that the PMS [petrol] showcased here today was apprehended from various borderlines in Adamawa and Taraba states,” Bashir stated. He added that, given the inflammable nature of the fuel, it will be auctioned to the public in accordance with the NCS Act of 2023 and standard operating procedures.
Bashir commended his officers for their vigilance and urged them to stay committed to the fight against smuggling, reinforcing that all actions will be conducted within the bounds of the law.
