BREAKING NEWS: WTO CONFIRMS NGOZI OKONJO-IWEALA AS DIRECTOR GENERAL

Nigeria's former Finance Minister under the Goodluck Jonathan Administration Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has been officially confirmed as Director General (DG) of the World Trade Organization (WTO) today, Monday.
This makes Dr Okonjo-Iweala the first African and the first woman to head the WTO.
This decision was made today by members of the WTO at a special meeting of the General Counsel. The selection process had been on since last year involving eight candidates from different member countries.
By late last year, the candidates had been narrowed to two - Dr Okonjo Iweala and her Singaporean contender who later this month, withdrew from the race giving Madam Ngozi no opposition, especially and Biden's new administration gave their support for her candidacy.
