In a candid appearance on the Honest Bunch podcast, veteran actor Jide Kosoko addressed the persistent issue of sexual exploitation within the Nigerian film industry. Kosoko urged aspiring actors to maintain their self-respect and dignity, emphasizing that no one should be coerced into compromising their values in exchange for a movie role.

Kosoko acknowledged that while some individuals might choose to take questionable paths to advance their careers, true success should never come at the cost of one’s integrity. “If I say I need you to come warm my bed before I can give you a particular movie role and you say you don’t want, just go, they cannot force you to do that. But if you want that role by all means…I know some ladies that come into the industry with determination that by the time I sleep with this person and that person I will get my name,” he remarked.

His comments come at a time when discussions about the treatment of actors and the ethical challenges in Nollywood are increasingly in the spotlight, with recent reports highlighting both the strides and the setbacks in the industry. Kosoko’s message serves as a reminder for emerging talents to prioritize their principles over fleeting opportunities, reinforcing the need for a more respectful and equitable working environment in Nigerian cinema.
