President Bola Tinubu has charged the newly appointed Medical Directors of two newly established tertiary hospitals to prioritize expansion, optimize healthcare services, and actively engage with their host communities.

Reaffirming his commitment to improving healthcare access for all Nigerians, Tinubu emphasized the crucial role of the Medical Directors in delivering quality service. The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Adekunle Salako, conveyed the President’s message while inaugurating the appointees in Abuja.

The newly appointed Medical Directors are Haruna Abubakar Shehu of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Kafanchan, Kaduna State, and Ali Mohammed Ramat of the National Orthopaedic Hospital Azare, Hawul, Borno State.

Presidential Vision for the Health Sector

During the inauguration, Salako acknowledged the challenges of leading newly established hospitals but urged the appointees to remain dedicated to the President’s health sector agenda.

“These are new hospitals, so obviously you will face some teething problems, and Kafanchan is very, very special to Mr President because of his keen interest in that part of Kaduna State. You know he has also established a Federal University in that senatorial district in view of his special interest,” he said.

He advised the Medical Directors to build strong relationships with community stakeholders, emphasizing that the success of the hospitals would depend on collaboration.

“I urge you to charge forward with unwavering dedication and determination towards projecting the agenda of Mr. President in the health sector. Relate very well with all the stakeholders in the community—they are the owners of these facilities, so let us relate very well with them.”

Salako also reminded the new leaders to maintain a good working relationship with the Ministry through the Hospital Services Department, noting that running a new medical facility would be demanding.

Commitment to Excellence

In response, Shehu, speaking on behalf of himself and his colleague, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for their appointments and the trust placed in them. He pledged commitment to excellence and assured that they would uphold the President’s vision for healthcare development.

Their appointments mark a significant step in the administration’s efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare system and improve medical services across the country.
