The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that popular TikTok star, Ojesanmi Afeez, better known as Oloba Salo, was shot in the leg by unidentified gunmen in the Lekki area of Lagos. According to the Police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, the social media star is currently receiving medical attention at Evercare Hospital, Lekki.
Hundeyin commended the hospital's prompt response to treating the gunshot victim and for following the proper procedure of notifying law enforcement. He expressed his gratitude in a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Special appreciation/commendation to Evercare Hospital, Lekki, for promptly accepting and commencing medical treatment of gunshot victim, Ojesanmi Afeez aka Oloba Salo, and equally promptly notifying the Police. This is the way to go in line with the Compulsory Treatment and Care of Victims of Gunshots Act.”
He further urged medical institutions to follow Evercare’s example by not rejecting gunshot victims, in line with the law. "Stop rejecting gunshot victims. Thank you, doctors! Thank you,” he added.
Before the police's official statement, a viral video surfaced online showing Oloba Salo's white AMG GLE 43 Mercedes Benz stained with blood, with a bullet casing found on the driver’s seat. His friend and fellow TikToker, Tunde Perry, raised the alarm on social media, stating that Oloba Salo had been shot and was fighting for his life. Perry also mentioned that the TikTok star’s gold chain was stolen during the attack at a filling station in Lekki.
Oloba Salo, who is also known as the "Ogba President of TikTok," is popular for his unique blend of Yoruba and English in his live videos. Before the incident, Salo had recently expressed concerns about his safety and requested security personnel from his manager, Sula.
The police have yet to provide additional details about the attackers, and investigations are ongoing
