SHATTA WALE GRANTED BAIL FOR 10 MILLION CEDIS

Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢10 million with two sureties by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

The bail followed his invitation on Wednesday to assist in investigations into a 2019 Lamborghini Urus seized from his residence in June. The luxury vehicle is suspected to be linked to proceeds of a USD 4 million crime involving Nana Kwabena Amuah, a Ghanaian currently serving an 86-month jail term in the United States.

In his statement to investigators, Shatta Wale, whose real name is Charles Nii Armah Mensah, claimed he purchased the vehicle from a man known only as “Zak” through WhatsApp but could not provide receipts or transfer documents to prove ownership.

EOCO, in a statement on Thursday, noted that the artiste has so far been unable to identify the alleged seller and will remain in custody until his sureties present verifiable properties to satisfy the bail conditions.

Both Shatta Wale and a former senior officer of Ghana’s National Signals Bureau have been named as persons of interest in the ongoing probe. Meanwhile, U.S. investigators are pressing for the repatriation of the seized Lamborghini as part of Amuah’s restitution of nearly USD 4.7 million.
