SGF GEORGE AKUME DENIES RUMOURS OF REMOVAL FROM OFFICE, CALLS REPORTS BASELESS

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has dismissed widespread rumours suggesting that President Bola Tinubu has relieved him of his duties, describing the reports as false, misleading, and completely unfounded.
In a statement released on Sunday by his Director of Press and Public Relations, Segun Imohiosen, Akume reaffirmed his position in the Tinubu administration, stating that the President has “no intention” of removing him from office.
“The information is entirely false, misleading, and lacks any basis in fact, as Mr President has no any intention of doing so,” the statement read.
Akume condemned the rumour as the product of “mischief makers” intent on spreading disinformation to mislead the public. He emphasized that President Tinubu continues to place full confidence in his ability to implement the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“The President reposes unwavering confidence in the capacity of the SGF to discharge his statutory obligation of formulating and implementing policies and programmes of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the administration,” the statement added.
The SGF urged the public, media outlets, and online platforms to disregard the rumour and refrain from circulating unverified information. He warned that the spread of falsehoods could erode public trust and damage the credibility of key national institutions.
“We urge the public, media organisations, and digital platforms to discountenance such rumours and to exercise caution as well as verify the authenticity of information before disseminating it,” the statement said. “Spreading unverified or intentionally false narratives not only undermines public trust but also poses a threat to the integrity of our institutions.”
Imohiosen also noted that a recent statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Strategy, aligns with the SGF’s position, further confirming that Senator George Akume remains in office.
“Therefore, Senator Dr. George Akume, CON, remains the Secretary to the Government of the Federation,” the statement concluded.
