Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with the Abia and Nasarawa State Police Commands, have successfully neutralized seven suspected kidnappers in separate operations, rescuing four kidnapped victims.

The police also recovered two AK-47 rifles, six magazines, and thirty-four rounds of live ammunition during the operations, which took place on March 14, 2025. The rescued victims were immediately taken to the Police Hospital for medical attention.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the coordinated efforts were part of the police’s ongoing crackdown on kidnapping and other violent crimes across the country.

Abia Police Command’s Operation

Adejobi revealed that on March 9, 2025, at approximately 09:30 hours, the Abia State Police Command received reports of four individuals kidnapped while driving a Toyota RAV4 along New Umuahia Road, Obingwa. Acting on credible intelligence, the command’s tactical team traced the kidnappers to a three-bedroom bungalow in Osokwa, Osisioma LGA.

Upon arrival, the operatives engaged in a fierce gun battle with the kidnappers. However, the superior firepower of the police led to the neutralization of six members of the gang, and all four victims were rescued unharmed.

Joint Operation in Nasarawa

In a separate operation, the Nasarawa State Police Command, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and local vigilante groups, neutralized a notorious kidnapper identified as Abdullahi, also known as “Honor,” in Akwanga.

The suspect, who had been on the police wanted list for multiple offences, was intercepted near the Akwanga Central Mosque while attempting to escape on a motorcycle. According to the police, Abdullahi brandished a weapon in a bid to evade arrest but was swiftly subdued. A search of his belongings led to the recovery of a Beretta pistol and twelve rounds of 9mm live ammunition.

One of his accomplices managed to escape with gunshot wounds, and a manhunt is currently underway to track him down.

IGP Commends Officers

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, commended the operatives for their professionalism and effective collaboration in tackling criminal activities.

He reiterated the police force’s commitment to eradicating kidnapping, gunrunning, and other forms of violent crime, warning criminal elements to desist from their activities or face the full force of the law.

“These recent operations underscore the resilience of the Nigeria Police Force in combating crime. The Force remains dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens and will continue working tirelessly to dismantle criminal networks and protect communities,” the statement added.
