Kano, Nigeria – June 24, 2025 — A potential suicide was averted in Kano on Monday after operatives of the Kano State Police Command rescued a 19-year-old man who climbed a billboard at the Ado Bayero Bridge, threatening to jump unless he saw popular TikTok personality, Abdul BK.
The young man, identified as Ibrahim Abubakar from Adamawa State, scaled the towering structure and drew the attention of onlookers with his disturbing ultimatum. Panic quickly spread as he vowed not to come down unless the social media influencer appeared in person.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Hussaini Abdullahi, a joint emergency response team consisting of police personnel and officials from the Fire Service was swiftly dispatched to the scene following a distress call.
“Through dialogue and negotiation, the TikToker was brought to the scene. Upon seeing him, the young man agreed to descend and was rescued unharmed,” the statement said.
Abubakar, who was reportedly weak from going hours without food, was immediately taken to the Police Hospital in Bompai for medical attention.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, praised the professionalism and quick thinking of the rescue teams and ordered a thorough investigation into the incident. He also issued a stern warning to the public against such dangerous stunts.
The police emphasized that attempted suicide remains a criminal offense under Nigerian law and urged citizens experiencing emotional or mental health challenges to seek help from qualified professionals instead of resorting to life-threatening actions.
The Kano State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and ensuring public safety throughout the state.
