When the effect of the COVID-19 began to escalate in the United States and the government had to effect a lockdown, one 66-year-old pastor and street musician had mocked that the media was overhyping the matter making people panic and live in fear. He made bold to say that he would not be restricted by any fear of Corona Virsus or the lockdown order. He said he would rather be jailed. Subsequently, he travelled from Virginia to preach at Mardi Gras.

A news report has it that this clergyman, Pastor Landon Spradlin later contracted the disease and "died at a hospital in North Carolina on Tuesday, after eight days in intensive care. He was hospitalised having collapsed with pneumonia as he made the 900 miles (1500 km) return trip from Louisiana to Virginia".

The daughter Jesse Spradlin, in an interview with the BBC, said, “We just never thought our father would pass away because of this. But he wasn’t the type of person to just live in fear and let it rob him of the joy of the life that he had.... Mr Spradlin’s “mission was to go into pubs, clubs and bars, play the blues and connect with musicians and just tell them that Jesus loved them,” and she also confirmed the pastor went to perform with his family band in New Orleans‘ Jackson Square during the carnival before he took ill with the novel disease.

US senator Tim Kaine said in his tribute to the fearless pastor that  Bishop Glenn was the first black chaplain for his local Chesterfield County Police Department.

He affirmed in a Tweet that "He was a friend and a pillar of the region's faith community... " adding that "My heart sinks as I learn this morning that Bishop Gerald Glenn, pastor of New Deliverance Evangelistic Church, died yesterday from COVID-19. May all do as much for so many."

Pastor Glenn founded The New Deliverance Evangelistic Church in 1995.

May his soul rest in peace.
