The Ondo State Police Command has intercepted a vehicle conveying crystal methamphetamine and other banned substances during a stop-and-search operation in Ifedore Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson, SP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Akure on behalf of the State Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Adebowale Lawal.
According to the statement, the operation was conducted on August 17 at Ilaramokin by a team led by ASP Amos Ayuba, during which the drugs were discovered. Further checks revealed that the vehicle was fitted with a stolen number plate in a bid to disguise its identity.
“This development underscores the need for members of the public to be extra vigilant and security-conscious, as criminal elements continue to devise new tactics to conceal their activities,” Olayinka noted.
The Commissioner of Police has directed operatives to impound unmarked vehicles, cars with fake or covered number plates, as well as motorcycles whose riders conceal their identities with masks or hoods. Offenders, the statement said, will face prosecution.
The Command assured residents of intensified routine checkpoints and stop-and-search operations across the state to frustrate criminal activities. It also urged the public to provide credible and timely information to support security efforts.
