In yet another instance of widespread power outage, Nigeria's national power grid has collapsed for the ninth time this year, leaving many parts of the country without electricity. The latest incident occurred on Thursday, November 7, at approximately 11:28 AM, disrupting power supply across several states.

An official statement from the Nigeria National Grid, shared on its X (formerly Twitter) account and signed by Dr. Friday Adakole, Head of Corporate Communications for the Jos Electricity Distribution Company, confirmed the collapse. The statement cited a sudden loss of power supply from the grid, affecting all feeders within their franchise areas.

"We hope to restore normal power supply to our esteemed customers as soon as the grid supply is restored to normalcy. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we strive to serve you better,” read the statement.

The Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) also acknowledged the power outage in a message to its customers, noting that efforts are underway in collaboration with key stakeholders to restore electricity, though no timeline was provided.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has not yet issued an official statement explaining the cause of the collapse. Recent reports, however, attribute ongoing grid failures to factors such as vandalism and inadequate maintenance, with government officials reportedly working on measures to stabilize the system.

The recurring power outages highlight ongoing challenges in Nigeria's energy sector, raising concerns among citizens and industry stakeholders about the reliability of the national grid.
