Controversial Nigerian singer, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has faulted his detention by the police in connection with the death of his former signee, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, also known as Mohbad.

Speaking in a recent interview, Marley insisted that he was not in the country at the time of Mohbad’s death. She wondered why he became a target of the investigation instead of those who were physically around the late singer in his final days.

The Marlian Music boss explained that he voluntarily returned to Nigeria to cooperate with investigators and clear his name, but was held in detention for two months, during which his passport was confiscated, despite his full cooperation.

“If we were in a sane country, the police would have arrested everyone who was with him 24 to 48 hours before he died. The police had no reason to arrest me. I wasn’t even in the country,” Marley said.

He added that his prolonged detention was unjustified and reflected negatively on the justice system. “I came to Nigeria to support the investigations because people were pointing fingers at me. When I came back, I was in Kpanti for two months and they held my passport. They had no reason to hold me that long in a working country,” he stated.

The singer also expressed his frustration at being linked to Mohbad’s death through resurfaced videos of past controversies, including his clash with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and an old altercation involving the late artiste.

“I wasn’t in the country, how can I be blamed? I can show you my passport stamped,” he stressed, lamenting that the accusations deprived him of the chance to mourn Mohbad properly.
