KIDNAPPING: HUMAN RIGHTS ACTIVIST ACCUSES NIGERIA POLICE OF STEALING RECOVERED RANSOM
NEWS - Posted on: 11th Nov. 2025 at 1:27PM
Delta-Based human rights activists, Harrison Gwamnishu has accused men of the Nigeria Police Force working with him of diverting funds recovered #kidnappers to their personal pockets. The funds were ransom paid by kidnap victims and recovered during their rescue operations.
Mr Harrison posted on his Facebook page where he also announced that he is suspending cooperation with the Police until they account for the moneys recovered from the kidnappers.
His statement reads:
I have worked tirelessly to make sure kidnapping victims either get their money back or that those who abducted them face justice or meet their ancestors. Recently, some police officers I have been working with have shown greed and corruption. Effective immediately, my team and I will suspend all collaboration with police officers until they fully account for the ransom funds I helped recover. Funds that were supposed to be handed to the victims have been diverted and they are tendering below what was recovered.
I want the public to know that some officers have been cruel and untrustworthy. If the full amount and vehicles recovered is not returned to the victims by this weekend, I will bring their conduct before the court of public opinion on social media.
We cannot continue risking sleepless nights and our personal safety while rogue officers take advantage of victims. God knows I am not afraid to speak out when people fail to give an account and refund what is owed.
For the record, Ejemizu Chidozie Peters can confirm these events should anyone attempt to intimidate or silence me.
