GODFATHERISM IS NOT SO BAD- NIGERIA'S YOUTH AND SPORTS MINISTER

Sunday Dare, Minister of Youths and Sports Development has said that godfatherism is not a bad thing as far as competence is not sacrificed for it.
Dare on Thursday said this article the unveiling of Lead Generation Initiative, a non-governmental and non-political organisation formed by businessman and lawmaker representing Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iqajowa Federal Constituency on Oyo State at the House of Representatives, Shina Peller.
The minister who said that it wasn't bad to have a godfather in Nigeria also said that in other countries, it wasn't referred to as godfatherism.
He further explained that godfatherism in Nigeria's political context is someone who holds certain political power, has paid the price surely and has the right to simply decide who gets what.
"The concept of godfatherism simply means that there are some individuals or influential leaders - who can be in block or individuals- who have the levers of control when it comes to political decisions and appointments", the Minister clarified
Sunday Dare reiterated that godfatherism is not so bad but when it sacrifices competence for others gains, then it is bad.
Abubakar Bello; Niger State Governor accord to the former speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogarawhi noted that individuals were being appointed or elected based on their duties and loyalty to their party and not on merit or competence.
