A fire outbreak at Sawmill Abaletu along Saki Road in the Iseyin Local Government Area of Oyo State has destroyed properties worth millions of naira, affecting no fewer than three shops.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Monday, June 23, 2025, was confirmed by the State Chairman of the Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, in a statement issued in Ibadan on Thursday.
According to Akinwande, the fire was reported at exactly 3:54 a.m., prompting a swift response from fire personnel led by Assistant Chief Fire Superintendent (ACFS) Azeez.
“On arrival, we met three shops already engulfed in flames. The firemen quickly swung into action and were able to prevent the fire from spreading to other shops,” he said.
While three shops were completely razed, the fire service successfully saved seven other shops and surrounding properties from destruction.
Akinwande attributed the cause of the fire to negligence on the part of a phone repairer who left a piece of equipment plugged in and switched on after closing for the day. The device is believed to have sparked the fire, igniting nearby combustible materials.
He emphasized the importance of fire safety awareness and urged business owners to take greater precautions to prevent similar incidents in the future.
