BENIN CITY, Nov. 8 (NAN) — Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has officially dissolved his cabinet, marking the end of his administration as he prepares to hand over to Senator Monday Okpebholo, the newly elected governor from the All Progressives Congress (APC). Okpebholo’s swearing-in is set for Nov. 12, coinciding with Obaseki’s final day in office after an eight-year tenure that began in 2016.
The dissolution of the Edo State Executive Council was formalized during a valedictory session held at the Government House on Friday. Deputy Governor Godwins Omobayo initiated the motion for the dissolution, which was seconded by Osilama Okuofu, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning.
During the session, Governor Obaseki expressed gratitude to council members for their dedication in advancing his administration’s agenda to “make Edo great again.” He also extended thanks to the people of Edo for their support, collaboration, and prayers throughout his term in office.
Members of the dissolved cabinet praised Governor Obaseki for his achievements across various sectors and acknowledged the opportunity to serve under his administration. Outgoing commissioners and heads of various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) took turns presenting awards and gifts in honor of Obaseki’s leadership.
The day concluded with a celebratory dinner held in Governor Obaseki’s honor, as the state prepares for a seamless transition to the incoming administration.
