The Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, through Boss Mustapha, has announced that the current phase of easing the lockdown will extend by another two weeks. He disclosed that this is the recommendation approved by President Muhammadu Buhari after he was convinced that the nation is not ready for a full opening of the economy.

In his words, Mustapha said:

Based on the recommendations of the PTF, Mr. President has approved the following:

The measures, exemptions, advisories and scope of entities allowed to reopen under phase one of the eased locked down, shall be maintained across the federation for another two weeks effective from 12 00 midnight today (18th May, 2020 to 1st June, 2020).

The implication is as follows:

Banks will only open from 9am to 2pm.

Markets will only be open partially or on specific days (as prescribed by the State)

There will remain Nationwide curfew  from 8pm to 6am.

Kano will remain under total lockdown for another two weeks.

Schools will remain closed.

Gathering in public places, Churches and mosques remain banned.

Intrastate travels remain banned, borders locked, except for the those on essential duties.

Wearing of Face masks in public places.

This measure becomes necessary to consolidate on the achievement made during the first two weeks of the gradual easing off of the lockdown.

Boss Mustapha said during the Presidential Task Force briefing, In spite of the modest progress made, Nigeria is still not ready for full reopening of the economy. Specific directives have been issued to security agents to ensure adherence to the guidelines, especially adherence to the curfew, ban on interstate movement and use of face mask.
