Chinese Medical Team Arrive Nigeria
In an effort to help African countries fight the COVID-19 pandemic, China is sending medical teams to various countries by providing local health services across Africa, Europe and the Middle East.
In Africa, medical experts have been deployed to Nigeria and Algeria. According to reports, in Africa, the use of medical personnel is an evolution of Beijing’s relief efforts on the continent. These initially focused exclusively on the distribution of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other medical supplies — including government-to-government support and philanthropic gifts like the recent PPE donation by the Jack Ma Foundation."
In Nigeria, earlier today, 15 Chinese medical experts arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja in a chartered Air Peace aircraft to assist Nigeria in efforts to contain the COVID-19 pandemic. This is said to be part of the social corporate responsibility of the Chinese construction company, CCECC.
According to the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehainre speaking on behalf of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 other experts are here to complement ongoing efforts to tackle the pandemic.
Mr Boss Mustapha, Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, appealed to medical experts in Nigeria to support the Chinese fulfil their mission. He said “I wish to clarify that all the countries of the world are seeking assistance and are receiving help in the fight against COVID-19 – even the United States is looking for help elsewhere. He said, “The support coming from China is a cooperate social responsibility initiated by CCECC, a company with a total volume of infrastructural contracts in Nigeria worth over N10 billion.”
