Popular Nollywood actress and producer Bimbo Ademoye has opened up about a deeply personal and painful experience involving a close friend who, according to her, turned against her out of envy.

In an emotional post shared on Instagram, the Sugar Rush star recounted how she once went out of her way to support the friend’s dream of becoming an actress, even buying her clothes, shoes, and bags to help her feel like a “superstar” at public events.

“I remember I once had a friend who wanted to be an actor as well. Whenever we attended events, I’d shop for her as well… I wanted her to look like the superstar she wanted to become,” Ademoye wrote.

Trouble reportedly began when the friend showed up at a movie premiere wearing the exact same dress Bimbo had planned to wear—just in a different colour. The incident raised concerns among those close to Bimbo, particularly her sister, who suspected the friend was trying to compete with the rising star.

“At first, I didn’t think much of it,” she said. “But my sister warned me, saying she should let me have my moment, especially since she wasn’t even in the movie or an actress yet.”

According to Bimbo, the situation escalated after she fell ill and pulled away from the friendship. Rather than offering support, the friend allegedly retaliated by creating a fake Instagram account to send abusive messages to Bimbo’s then-boyfriend. The actress claimed the messages included false allegations and even attempts to romantically pursue him.

“The craziest part,” Bimbo revealed, “she even tried to link up with him romantically.”

Despite her hurt, the actress’s revelation was met with an outpouring of support from fans and fellow entertainers. Many praised her for her honesty and strength in walking away from a toxic relationship.

The multi-award-nominated actress, known for films such as Looking for Baami, Backup Wife, and Anikulapo, has become one of Nollywood’s most beloved talents. Her story serves as a reminder of the hidden challenges that can come with fame—and the importance of surrounding oneself with genuine friends.
