In a statement released on Sunday, the state police spokesperson, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrest, stating that Victor was apprehended by officers attached to the Uli Divisional Police Headquarters on Friday, June 26, 2025.

According to the police, Victor lured his unsuspecting friend under the pretense of visiting another acquaintance, only for the victim to be abducted by the gang. In a bid to avoid suspicion, Victor pretended to be one of the kidnapped victims.

“The suspect confessed during interrogation to planning the abduction and collecting the ransom with his gang. He is now cooperating with the police by providing useful information to track down his accomplices,” Ikenga stated.

The suspect will be prosecuted upon the conclusion of the investigation, the police added.

In a separate incident, the command also announced the arrest of 10 suspects in connection with the murder of a kidnapped elder statesman in Nimo, Njikoka Local Government Area. The victim was abducted from his farm on June 23, and despite the payment of a N15 million ransom by his family, he was later found dead near a piggery farm in the area.

Ikenga revealed that the arrests were carried out by officers of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, on Saturday. “While the suspects are still undergoing interrogation over the incident, the operatives are ready to proceed to the next line of action as directed by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu,” he said.

He added that further updates on the case would be communicated in due course, reaffirming the command’s commitment to ensuring safety and security across the state.
