As the #30DaysRantChallenge continues to grip Nigerian social media, Managing Director of Update Afrika Communications, Dr. Joseph Effiong has urged government to look into the demand of the youth as quickly as possible.

The viral challenge which kicked off March 17 has seen thousands of Nigerians ,mostly youth taken to TikTok, X (formerly Twitter), and Instagram to vent their frustrations over the nation’s worsening economy, inflation, and cost of living.

The movement began after a vira' video by NYSC member, Ushie Rita Uguamaye criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, branding him a “terrible president” ,and orchestrating policies crushing the poor and killing businesses.

Effiong stated that the challenge exposed a growing disconnect between government policies and the everyday realities of citizens struggling with hunger, unemployment, and a plunging currency.

“Each post, each video is a cry for help. It would be a tragic miscalculation for those in power to ignore these voices. The challenge is no longer just a trend, It has become a megaphone for the pain of everyday Nigerians. The authorities must listen, not just watch", he pleaded.

The social crusader reiterated that basic necessities like affordable food and functional infrastructure, amongst others being clamoured for are not privileges, but entitlements of citizens, adding that their unavailability subject citizens daily to untoward hardship.

“What started as a single voice is fast gaining momentum. We are witnessing a digital uprising, whether government officials like it or not, the youth are demanding accountability, and their demand is growing louder by the day,"he said.

He hoped that this effort will translate to a policy reform, and a major turning point.

"This isn’t just another viral hashtag. It’s a test for our democracy. We hope that these voices will be met with appropriate action", he said.
