BREAKING NEWS: FORMER NOLLYWOOD ACTOR DIES IN JOS, FAMILY HIDES NEWS FROM PUBLIC

NEWS - Posted on: 10th May. 2023 at 4:12PM
The news of a former Nollywood Actor's death has filtered in since Monday, 7th of May 2023. He was said to have passed after some months of going back and forth to the hospital treating an undisclosed ailment. Till now, no official announcement has been made, and it seems his sister, Mrs Felicia Jofu is deliberately keeping the news away from his friends and the public. As of the time of press, it is not clear if his ex-wife, Lydia has been informed.

Our correspondent, who visited no 13 Metropolitan Street in Tudun Wada, Jos where the sister lives, gathered from residents around the area that "someone" in that compound had died but they are not sure of the identity of the deceased. But a resident around that area who appealed for anonymity said the actor, who he had seen a couple of times and recognized as Saint Obi, had died on Sunday and that the following day, his body was taken to the morgue at JUTH.

According to Emdee David who investigated the matter, another person who also pled anonymity disclosed that the deceased was related to the widow, Mrs Felicia Jofu.

Saint Obi had allegedly moved to his sister's place in Jos, the Plateau State Capital some months ago, and has been seen taken to the Hospital on different occasions.

Emdee David also found out from a source at JUTH that Mr Obi was seen many times in the hospital. The source said one of Felicia's sisters works with the Teaching Hospital and had been helping in caring for Saint Obi.

It is not certain why the news is being kept from the public, but we are able to confirm from multiple sources that indeed, the great actor from Imo State, Obinna Nwafor, best known as Saint Obi, has passed.

We also confirmed that Haruna, the stepson of Mrs Jofu had died in that same house about two weeks ago, which might be a reason the sad news is kept a secret. All his friends and former colleagues in Nollywood don't seem to know his where about.

But for how long would they keep the news?

When enquiries were made, most of his friends and former colleagues said they have not heard from him for a while and Saint Obi is supposed to be abroad. But our sources said, indeed, that man had been sick in Jos since the beginning of the year.

Saint Obi was born Obinna Nwafor in 1965 in Port Harcourt city of Rivers State. His parents later moved to Jos, Plateau State where he had his early education. He graduated from the University of Jos after studying Theater Arts in 1991. It was the early time of the modern Nigerian movie industry, Nollywood when Saint Obi became an actor. He is best known for his role in Sakobi, Festival of Fire, Good Bye Tomorrow, Golden Fleece, and several others. Obi was known by several nicknames like James Bond of Nollywood, Saint of the Moviedom, etc.

In 2006, Saint Obi married his wife, Mrs Lynda Amobi who works with MTN Nigeria in Lagos. Their marriage hit the rock some years back leading to a messy divorce process. Lynda was said to have been sabotaging the process while they both fought for custody of his children.
