Acting N D D C Managing Director Walks Out On Legislators Probing N40 Billion Illegal Spending Allegation
Today at the hearing of the 40Billion Fraud allegation, the acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Company (NDDC) Prof. Kemebradikumo Pondei, accused the Chairman of the Committee, Honorable Tunji-Ojo of corruption and then walked out on the Legislators.
The committee was set up by the NASS to investigate the alleged N40 billion irregular expenditure in the commission.
Before Walking Out, Pondei said “We in the NDDC is not comfortable with the Chairman of this committee, presiding over a matter. He is an accused party, the NDDC has over time accused Rep. Olubumi Tunji-Ojo of different crimes against the NDDC and he has responded in the press. He is an interested party and we do not believe that the NDDC can have justice because he cannot seat on his own case. We have no issue of appearing, we appeared before the Senate ad hoc committee and as long as he remains, we will not make any presentation.”
After he walked away, the House committee ordered the arrest of the Acting MD.
The NDDC has been engrossed in several allegations of corruption and misappropriation of funds meant for projects. One includes non-payment of tuition and allowances for Nigerian students studying abroad under NDDC's scholarship.
